It's been difficult sorting through the political/economical/social events of the country without going stark raving mad. The truth is I am too informed--I watch too many political programs and of course, I have my solutions and it doesn't mean getting rid of Medicare/Medicaid or Social Security. I say cut into the defense budget and tax the wealthy for a change. Let's face it, corporations have had their way with the American tax system for years now. It's time for shared sacrifice. If poor, old, sick and middle class people have to give up their tax dollars and their benefits, what do the corporations have to do? I truly believe this slash and burn technique is going to blow up in the Republicans' faces.
I do have to hand it to the Republicans, though. They sure do know how to play politics! They rarely roll over and play dead, unlike the Democrats, who give and give. President Obama looks strong one week, and the next, "they" are touting his weakness. Personally, I am not crazy about President Obama's style, though I admire his intelligence. I want him to come out and denounce cuts that are going to hurt people. Unfortunately, he tends to be a centrist and more apt to play the game right of center than left of center.
As a leftie, I find President Obama as too easily persuaded to please the other side. But, I continue to give him the benefit of the doubt. He is dealing with a lot of chaos in Washington and while he tries to sort it out, I'd prefer he not give away the entire store!
I guess the mood of the country is darn near cynical and despondent. I'd like to give President Obama another 4 years and I'd like to send the House of Representatives packing to their home states! Most especially the Republicans!!!
