Mindful Musings #20

Everyone's talking about gun control, mental health, conservative vitriol and liberal leanings. The gunman in Tucson was nuts. Anyone who kills in that manner has got to be nuts. This is what makes it all the more tragic. The country has shut down since the Saturday shootings. Everyone is in mourning and no one can agree on the why of this tragedy.

Rachel Maddow began her show with a list of group shootings that have occurred since 1988. She listed 35 such attacks on innocent people by lone gunmen. This is something that is not new and it's systematic of a mental attitude by the body politick. The 2nd Amendment people feel we need to have guns to be able to defend ourselves against a larger than life government. Yet, they see no problem with someone purchasing a semi-automatic pistol and several cartridges of ammunition. If I ran the world, that alone would send up a red flag to contact officials. There is a distorted view of our rights when selling guns as a business should equate with a business's desire to make money. We have our rights, after all. We can sell and buy whatever we want, and it doesn't matter how society deals with the consequences.

Laws are too easy to break, and guns are too easy to buy. Questions are never asked and the mental deviants are able to rule the streets.

Why is it that other countries don't have group attack syndrome? Could it be as simple as many countries don't see guns as solving problems? Or could it be that they don't have a 2nd Amendment to lead them through what we, Americans go through.

Last year there were 7 group killings in our country. People don't want their guns taken away and want to wear them right out in public. Some think the solution is to pack heat. Yeah, that'll keep the scum of the earth from attacking them. It isn't about the 2nd Amendment as much as it is fear. Americans fear other Americans as much as they fear immigrants and other nationalities.

Make it difficult to buy clips for a semi-automatic weapon. Pass a damn law to do it and enforce the law. Quit bellyaching about how the government is trying to take away our weapons. The government isn't doing that, those that perpetrate violence on others do!
