Mindful Musings-12

Recent reports of suicide by bullying on the internet has caused many adults to wonder what's wrong with kids today. It isn't' just today's kids. Suicide has been the results caused by many factors and has been going on for eons. Most of us have been bullied in our younger years. How we reacted to that was what became a learning lesson in life. Maybe we looked at the bullying as part of getting through high school and college. How did we manage not to off ourselves?

Kids, especially high school and college kids are still finding their comfort level in society. As a former teacher, I can tell you that kids often do not look to families, teachers, or friends, for that matter, because there is an air of secrecy and a no snitching philosophy among the teens. And, of course, there is an air of nastiness from our society, in general, in politics, and the internet to name a few areas.

It takes a lifetime to grapple with life, let alone our place in the world. It's just sad some people are mean, and destructive and others actually care what those idiots think of them. Schools have been dealing with the issue of bullying since Columbine. Unfortunately, suicide is the only way for some. Stronger ties among parents, friends, who care, relatives, teachers, all need to come into a child's life.

I, too feel sorry for the people who committed suicides. I guess I just wonder why some of us don't.

  1. I've been reading your blog and am really enjoying it. It has me so fired up with all of this bullying. I was severely picked on throughout life and am in therapy now dealing with it every week. Think I can send those assholes from school my doctor's bill?

  2. We all have been picked on. My big problem as always, was my weight. I was called Fatso, esp. by the guys. In fact, I wasn't fat. I used to weigh 140 in high school. Guess the big boobies didn't help. Sigh!
