The talk around the pundits are the absolute certainty that the Democrats will lose the Congress and that this mid-term election will be the end of the Obama "regime" (Rush uses such high end words, doesn't he?). I am absolutely certain that this prognostication is wrong.
The media has to sell commercials and their goal is not so much to inform as to entice. There are very few web sites, TV programs or just plain news shows that indicate anything but a bias in either directions.
I doubt the American people really, in their guts feel that privatization of tried and true programs are the way to set the country. If they buy this adage then they also have to understand that government not only helps but can improve ones life. I didn't say WILL, I said CAN. Take Social Security, for example. Here is a tried and true program. To hear the right wing talk of it, you'd think that the government is prepared to take over every aspect of American life. How ridiculous.
The fact that money was taken out of seniors' pay checks for years while they were young and working, doesn't seem to make an impression. Instead they tout the fact that they will not need to pay into the fund and that private accounts are the only way to go. Dare I mention the private accounts that were decimated in the stock market, mine, included? The saddest comments are the ones that say seniors are taking advantage of the system to keep themselves fed and clothed. Well, that makes sense to me. Of course they need to be taken care of! What kind of society denies this to our elderly? A selfish one, I'd say!
There are many programs that are workable, and continue to show government can take on the big tasks. The military system alone is a classic example of government "interference". Yet, you never hear the right talk about the military in any harsh way yet, this is a government-run entity. The medical facilities for military families, and to a lesser degree the VA are vitally important to the lives of these people. Yet, you hear voices speaking out about these so-called fakes even talk that PTSD is a made up diagnosis and a way for Vets to mooch off their government. What an immoral stand! I'm all for giving them what they truly deserve, some dignity!
One of the important points about all this hand-wringing over lack of jobs and Islamic centers and immigration debates is, I can only hope, a core group of Americans who see the overall impossible task Congress has in setting the country's goals. Moderation of ideas are what's needed. Criticism abounds in all corners of the country. Most of it directed at Pres. Obama. What is really frightening is that people, once their pocketbooks are affected can turn into angry mobs, totally unreasonable and caustic.
To the birthers, and doubters, there needs to be a middle ground of consciousness. One can't spend one's entire life doubting everything you read or interpret. There are truths in the real world that everyone can understand. How silly to think that Pres. Obama planned his entire birth and life around being Muslim. From what fantasy is this derived? It's from people who cannot moderate their thinking...think on their feet...critically.
I wonder when did we become so selfish and hard? I guess it was when we lost our jobs. After all, losing a job is all Pres. Obama's fault isn't it?
Does anyone realize we are our own worst enemies?
