Mindful Musings-5

It was an illness that forced me into retirement. In my long career I was unemployed several times in my life. Whenever that happened, I was able to find another job. In fact, my salary increased in every move I made. In those days there were enough jobs to go around. I was lucky I lived during that time.

Now, there are 3 million Americans unemployed and/or losing unemployment benefits while the Senate takes their Independence holiday. I can't find any reason why the Senate would be so callous and not extend benefits to the unemployed. The Senate is shirking its responsibilities to the American people.

The Republicans don't want to contribute to the deficit while the Democrats know that by extending unemployment benefits, they are helping the average unemployed worker. Until jobs are created by private entities or the government, leaving those poor folks out in the cold is a recipe for violence and maybe anarchy.

It's a dangerous time. Balancing the budget is vitally important to our country, however, destroying the spirit of the unemployed is more important to the country. The consequences of not restoring unemployment is catastrophic to the U.S.

What is the matter with the Senate? Filibusters by the Republicans and weak ideas from the Democrats. Is there no one hearing the unemployed crying?
